7. The Attack of Pakistan in the guise of tribesmen began on 23.10.1947, The story ig recounted in 'The Tragic Story of Partition'(supra). It tell us how the snow was cleared a the Srinagar airport for Indian planes to land and of the matching of courage and military skill of the Indian Jawans (soldiers) and the heroic assistance of the votunteers of tha Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh.  The rest is current history.

6. In the meantime, the State needed a new Prime Minister of core with the situation. The Choice fell in an illustrious Layers and Judge of Lahore High Court, Shi Mehr Chand Mahajan (later Chief  Justice of India). Sardar Patel has full faith in him and his ability. The biographer of Mahajan tells us,"Sardar Patel not only encouraged Justice Mahajan but practically ordered him to accept the prime ministership and proceed to Srinagar. He was  granted eight months leave and premissin to take uo service in the State of J & K,'in the larger interests of India'. (vide' Chief Justice Mehr Chand Mahaja' by Dr. Vidya Dhar Mahajan) Mahajan took over as Prime Minister of J & K on 15.10.1947.

 4. After the announcement of June 3, 1947, the Ruler of J & K was in a fix. All means of  communication of the Atate of J & K including postal and telegraph service lay through the territory, which was to be included in Pakistan. there was no independent link with the rest of India. Sri V. P. Menon tells us (vide the story of Integration of the Indian States) of the efforts of Lord Mountbatten. who flew to Kashmir for four days in the third week of June.in a bid to secure the accession of Kashmir to Pakistan. The Maharaja of Kashmir had to invent and excuse that he was ill and confined to bed; he begged to be excused of the last meaning on the forth day. In the vicious propaganda of Muslim League organizing riots all round the country, and engineering revolt of Muslim solders in Maharaja armed forces, Pakistan mounted pressure tactics.

5. Sardar Patel was aware of what was brewing. in this dire hour of need of India. he wanted some leader of all India statre, in whom both he and the Maharaja could repose absolute confidence in the delicate mission he  was entrusting. The choice fell on Sri M. S. Golwalkar (Sri Guruji to many). He was flown to Srinagar in a State plane on 17.10.1947. On return (on the 19th), of the Maharaja to accede to India (the full story is told in 'The Full Story is told in 'The Tragic Story if Partition by H. V. Sheshadri.)

1. A Story is told of an artist, who was painting a picture of Lord Ganesha. As ill Luck it] the back ] ab a caricature of a tail . And lo, the picture of a monkey stared at his face. This is the story of Kashmir under the Nehru dispensation of wrong premises and perverted politics.

 2. Said Jagmohan, former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, " Had we followed Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerji, the would have been no Kashmir problem". the slogan,' ek vidhan] ek nishan ek pradhan', which was the reason of his martyrdom, is still the only rational basis on which any lasting  edifice can be built. The Government of  India is bogged into a quagmire and legal quibbling.

3. The Story of treachery, which gave vay to Pakistan fighting the proxy war in Kashmir , is to well-know. What is not so well-know is the role of Saviour played by Sardar Patel's achievement, not only thwarting the British scheme of Balkanistion of  the Country, but also securing the accession of J& K to India, in sprite of odds, the conditions and vacillations of Pt. Nehru, and the snares woven by the British.
